Authoritarian regimes account for nearly a third of global GDP. Robust economies, robust regimes… why are dictators unstoppable? On Saturday, March 26, in Warsaw, a short, improvised line from Joe Biden hit the mark: “For God’s sake, this man cannot stay in power.”
His advisors immediately corrected the statement, assuring him that no, the United States did not want regime change in Russia. The American corrections now sound like a mea culpa for the years of interventionism carried out in the name of democracy.
